Success rate vs man coverage

  • by

An elite receiver can beat out man coverage better than anyone else. Here’s the list of the best from last season.⠀

PAST SUCCESS – Every receiver on this list at the top was a WR1 in pretty much every game they played last season. Players like Allen Robinson and Davante Adams are clear Number 1 receivers on their team and both have pretty much no competition for targets. One interesting Adams stat is that he’s only ever had a 1000 yard season once, but he’s hit over 800 3 times. Michael Thomas should be benefited by the addition of Emmanuel Sanders and is the clear top-receiver off the board. ⠀

FUTURE BREAKOUTS – Among everyone on this list, the only two to not have a 1,000 yard season are Calvin Ridley and Terry McLaurin. Those two are massive breakout players who have WR1 upside and can be among the top receivers in the league by next year. Ridley is on a team with 258 vacated targets that will still be throwing the ball a ton. This team might go just a tiny bit more run-heavy with Gurley in the backfield, but I still expect Matt Ryan to be tossing the ball early and often. Terry is in a bit of a different situation. He’s ceiling is a lot lower than Ridley’s but he is still the clear leading receiver on a team with a new HC and a young QB. McLaurin and Haskins had one of the best connections in recent CFB history and I hope that more of that translates to the NFL this season.
